News Update - August 7,2002

elcome to The Buccaneer Trading Company. In our very last bulletin we discussed how this site has been 'slowly' developing. That, me lad's could not be any closer to the truth.

The reasons have been a combination of technical barriers and devotion to other projects but mainly due to the pace of achieving self actualization. When I set out to begin this website I knew of only a few souls who shared that same sense of connection to this chapter of our nautical past. Even concluding that the sea, dating far back into my family, was a great part of me. Now after a few years of interaction I have encountered and gathered a community of fellow adventurers who share the same interest and enthusiasm. So to thee this website is dedicated.

There are going to be a great many changes to the site this Fall of 2002. In fact it will be completely rebuilt. First it will be continually updated to be more visually appealing. The incomplete essays will be completed. My apologies go out to all who have sent me emails concerning them, including all yee little ones who needed to do some research for school. That entire section is being reworked. Many visitors in the past have used that area as a research tool so I have made a commitment to update it.

We will also add new sections such as a 'who was who' in mapmaking and a thorough description of period artifacts. The music will also be available on a few more suitable pages but only enough to add atmosphere. We don't want to drive yer' crazy with noises just for the sake of it.

There have also been a few of you souls that wanted to contribute to the journals. We encourage anyone to write in with any pertinent resources, artifact discussion, stories or questions. Be not worried brethren, the unique foundation and mission of this internet port will not change. Contact me if you would want to share some piratical literature with your fellow sea dogs.

So I re-write my last installment to catch up with the times but tell the same story...

In the past several months the BTC has been slowly developing into a fully integrated website. And now it has arrived. Still incomplete but ready to sail. A "Port o' Call" for those who find the era of piracy fascinating. It has also become a reliable source for hard to find reference books on the subjects of treasure hunting, underwater archaeology, Spanish colonial history and artifact identification. Several hours have been committed to this project. All the custom graphics, digital photos and historical essays were conceived solely through this author. The mission of this website is not only to provide quality original material on the latter subjects but also to create an interactive atmosphere in which you can explore. What began as a small idea has now become a virtual reality. We appreciate your continued interest in our website and hope to continue to serve you.

he BTC is very proud to have been awarded a great many of web awards. But I must say the greatest satisfaction has come from you, the visitors this site has had these last three years. The prestigious awards come secondary to letters we receive from students of all ages displaying interest in our countries rich nautical past as well as that of the rest of the world. We thank you for your general reviews and constructive comments sent to us throughout the past few years. The following are some comments we have received:

"Great site you have here. We will mention it in our next (July-August) issue of TQM!"--- Treasure Quest Magazine

"After locating your web site, I was so impressed that I was pleased to add your site to our links page." --- Historical Research & Development, Inc.

"I've just discovered your web-site. Excellent. I've been looking for a dealer in piracy for quite some time." --- Andy Joy

"Nice! I love the sea and all the tales from pirate lore. I'll be back!!!"  ---Kate M

FONT_buccaneer_T.gif (1114 bytes)he BTC is proud to promote this history and the stories of the building of the New World in parallel with the Golden Age of Piracy that have been overshadowed. There is so much for us to learn about this era from the artifacts being unearthed and recovered from the sea as we speak. More historical documents are made public each year allowing fellow adventurers to find, salvage and rescue the monuments of this past. We thank you for your devoted interest and support. Our answer to the lads and lassies at all the sites that link to us ...is Thank Ye for the swifter sails and now, let's go fetch some of those doubloons.
e now invite you to browse our book lists (if you haven't already) and see some of the hardest books to find. Works of literature that take you to an imaginary treasure island, archaeological reports on 300 year old sunken Spanish Treasure Ships, catalogs of lost bullion, and historical tales of the golden age of piracy.

Piracy Lives!
Who ever says piracy is long been gone is mortally wrong. Piracy exists in the Far East and claims many lives every year. Closer to home, pirates are not as violent but they do create costly problems. Software piracy has plagued manufacturers since the first introduction of the PC. Fortunately the BTC has nothing to worry about in this department but we do ask that you use some consideration if you clip our artwork.
